After a successful series win over the T20 World Cup Champions, India will now shift their focus towards South Africa as both teams will face-off in a three-match T20I series starting Wednesday, September 28. This is the final stop before the T20 World Cup 2022 next month.
Both sides have done outstandingly well in the shortest format throughout this year and would be hoping to go into the showpiece event on a high note.
India are yet to be beaten in a bilateral T20I series since the conclusion of last year's T20 World Cup in the UAE while the Proteas too are in red-hot form. This would be their (South Africa's) second visit to the Indian soil this year for a full-fledged T20I series.
During their last visit in June for a five-match series, they had levelled the scoreline 2-2 and it was the visitors, who were dominating the fifth game before rain played spoilsport and match was eventually called off.
As far as the squads are concerned, India would be missing the services of senior pacer Mohammed Shami and batting all-rounder Deepak Hooda. While Shami is yet to recover from COVID-19 completely, Hooda has been ruled out due to a back spasms.
Even the Proteas would be missing their middle-order sensation Rassie van der Dussen as he has been ruled out after sustaining a fracture to his left index finger during the second Test match against England earlier. Rassie has not even been included in South Africa's 15-member squad for the next month's T20 World Cup.
Another thing that also needs to be noted here is that South Africa have not lost a bilateral T20I series on Indian soil since 2015.
