‘India want KL Rahul to bat at No. 4 now’ – Yuvraj Singh suggests KL Rahul's position ahead of World Cup 2023
Yuvraj Singh advocates KL Rahul at No.4 position going into the World Cup 2023 and also talks about the significance of the position
In the ever-evolving world of cricket, the quest to find the perfect batting order continues to be a topic of intense debate. In the midst of this ongoing discussion, a cricketing luminary, Yuvraj Singh, has voiced his opinion on India's No. 4 spot, advocating for the retention of KL Rahul in this pivotal position. Rahul's resurgence in the cricketing arena has not gone unnoticed, with his recent performances, particularly during the Asia Cup 2023, making a resounding statement.
The 31-year-old's triumphant return to the international stage was nothing short of a fairy tale. His bat spoke volumes as he crafted a century against arch-rivals Pakistan in his comeback match, setting the stage on fire. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir sang the chorus of praise, hailing Rahul as the harbinger of stability in the No. 4 slot. Now, Yuvraj has also joined the bandwagon by stating,
“India want KL Rahul to bat at No. 4 now. They have to give him 15-20 games in that position. In the Asia Cup, coming back from injury, he scored a 100. On a spinning track [in Colombo, against Sri Lanka] he scored a vital 39 runs. He is looking good right now, so they need to stick with him at No. 4,” the former India all-rounder suggested while speaking to The Week.
Yuvraj talks about the importance of No.4 position
During the scintillating Asia Cup 2023 campaign, Rahul's bat wielded magic, amassing a total of 169 runs in just three innings at an astonishing average of 84.50. It was in clashes against cricketing giants like Pakistan and Sri Lanka that the Karnataka batter truly left an indelible mark, emerging as the catalyst for India's success in the tournament. 'Yuvi', a maestro who himself graced the No. 4 position on 108 occasions during his illustrious career, understands the gravity of this role. He emphasized,
“No. 4 is a crucial position, especially if the openers get out cheaply. No. 4 batsman needs to have the technique to leave the ball, play the short ball well, and try and create partnership,” he added.
