Ireland’s all-rounder Simi Singh is currently fighting for his life in (Gurugram) Gurgaon. Admitted to the Medanta Hospital, Singh had an acute liver failure, due to which he had to be taken to the hospital. Notably, the cricketer is in grave need of a liver transplant and is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Born in Mohali, Simi Singh played under-15 and under-17 cricket for Punjab but made the move to Ireland for career opportunities in the hospitality industry. In Ireland, he joined the Malahide Cricket Club, which reignited his flame for the sport. At the age of 37, Singh has played 88 matches for Ireland across formats and has taken 44 wickets to his name, with 889 runs scored in both ODIs and T20Is combined. The all-rounder is currently awaiting a liver transplant, which is going to be donated by his wife, Agamdeep Kaur. His father-in-law has been giving updates on his situation.
"Some five to six months back, when he was in Dublin, Ireland, Simi developed a strange fever that kept coming and going,” his father-in-law Parvinder Singh told the Times of India (TOI).
“He got himself examined there, but nothing conclusive came out in the check-ups. The medical professionals there said that they couldn't find the underlying cause and therefore they wouldn't start medication…The process was getting delayed, and his health was deteriorating, so we decided to get him treated in India for 'better medical attention',” he added.

Simi's blood group is AB+, which means he is a universal receiver: Parvinder Singh
His father-in-law also revealed Simi Singh’s blood group, which is AB+, which makes him a universal receiver. The doctors have also informed him that matching the liver with his wife will pose no problems and that the operation is expected to be a success.
"Thankfully, Simi's blood group is AB+, which means he is a universal receiver. The doctors say that matching with his wife won't be a problem. The transplant is likely to be performed very soon, and the doctors are positive that the outcome will be in Simi's favour and will give him a new lease of life,” Parvinder concluded.
