The internet is buzzing with images of India's ODI jersey featuring two stars above the BCCI logo, leading to widespread speculation about whether this move diminishes the significance of the T20 trophy. The ODI jersey to be donned by the players during the World Cup will symbolise their victories in the 1983 and 2011 World Cups, given that this tournament follows the 50-over format.

Less than three weeks from now, India's World Cup campaign will kick off at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with the host nation facing five-time champions Australia on October 8th. On a recent occasion, during their match against Bangladesh, a sneak peek of India's ODI World Cup jersey surfaced online, causing quite a stir on social media due to a distinctive feature that sets it apart from the jersey worn during the ongoing Asia Cup.

The primary contrast between the leaked image of the World Cup jersey and the Asia Cup jersey lies in the number of stars adorning the BCCI emblem on the chest. The Asia Cup jersey proudly displays three stars, symbolizing India's three World Cup victories: two in the ODI format in 1983 and 2011, and one in the T20 format in 2007. Consequently, the ODI World Cup jersey has only two stars, representing the Men in Blue's two World Cup triumphs.

The force behind the Team India jersey

The jersey's design is the creation of Aaquib Wani, a talented young individual born and currently based in Delhi.  Aaquib is a designer who has gained experience by collaborating closely with various brands, including Adidas, which happens to be the official kit sponsor for team India.

Adidas secured a substantial deal with the Indian cricket team, amounting to a whopping 350 crore rupees for a five-year duration, which commenced this June and is set to continue until the end of March 2028. As part of this agreement, Adidas is obligated to pay 65 lakh rupees for each match that the Indian team participates in. The total annual expenditure under this arrangement is estimated to be approximately 70 crore rupees when factoring in royalties from merchandise sales.
