In a pivotal moment during the fourth Test match between India and England in Ranchi, emerging pacer Akash Deep saw his life take a transformative turn as he embraced his much-anticipated debut in the esteemed Indian cricket jersey. With his proud mother in attendance to witness the milestone, Akash Deep received his debut Test cap from the revered head coach, Rahul Dravid. The call-up to the national squad stemmed from his commendable performances for India A. He also became the 313th player to represent India in Tests.

Hailing from Bengal, Akash Deep embarked on his journey to cricketing prominence in 2019, earning his stripes across all three formats for his state team. Accumulating 30 First-Class appearances, along with stints in 28 List A and 41 T20 matches, his dedication bore fruit. Notably, he contributed to Bengal's commendable runs to the Ranji Trophy finals in 2020 and 2023, albeit falling short to Saurashtra on both occasions. The Indian Premier League franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore, recognized his potential, securing his services for the IPL 2022 season.

Akash’s emphatic domestic record sets him apart

Akash Deep's impact on Bengal's cricketing landscape has been profound, especially with his stellar performances as the team's leading wicket-taker in consecutive seasons. Although in the 2019-20 campaign, he shared the limelight with left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed, both amassing 35 scalps. Shahbaz's superior average and economy, however, slightly edged past Akash's contributions.

In the domain of First-Class cricket, the bowling all-rounder boasts an impressive tally of 104 wickets, maintaining an average of 23.58 and an economy rate of 3.03. Notably, his standout performance of six for 60 against Gujarat in the 2019-20 season highlighted his early skillset on the pitch.

The 27-year-old's recent exploits further solidified his credentials, emerging as India A's premier wicket-taker against England Lions in a three-Test series. His 11 wickets at an average of 18.72 catapulted him into contention for the national squad, ultimately culminating in his Test debut in Ranchi.

In the white-ball arena, Royal Challengers Bangalore secured the right-arm medium's services for the 2022 season, where he showcased glimpses of his potential with six wickets across seven matches. His standout moment arrived against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he returned figures of 3 for 45 in his debut season.
