A betting racket, run by a few techies and management graduates, was busted in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. Notably, reports claim that Anand Swami (26), Shreyash Balsara (27) of Rajasthan and Rohit Shivaj (20), Paras Magu (30), and Sumit Dahiya (25) belonging to Haryana, were in the business for the last four years as the police finally caught them in Lucknow’s Sushant Golf City Police area.

As per the police, they have middle level jobs in private firms and regroup every year during the time of the Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, out of the five people who were arrested, Sumit Dahiya is said to be the mastermind behind the whole operation. He did his BBA from a private university while all the other four members did BTech from different universities.

“We got information about this gang and based on surveillance busted them on May 17. The miscreants owned up to their crime and disclosed the modus operandi,” Vineet Jaiswal, the DCP of South Zone stated after arresting them.

Police also claim that the miscreants had downloaded a 'Cricket Live App' on their laptops to watch the online relay of every match in the ongoing season. They also added that the live telecast of the match on television through satellite is delayed by three to four seconds and thus they used the app for instant updates.

As per the police, all five of them wisely used the technicality in their favour in order to earn loads of money. They used to call people and used social media in their favour to ask people to bet on matches. They also used to lure them by offering a lot of money in order to bet.

Meanwhile, Sailendra Giri, the SHO of the Sushant Gulf City police said that the five of them used to travel in order to watch every game. He added that one of them used to be in the stadium while others operated the racket.

“One of the members used to stay inside the stadium while others operated the racket," he said
