The IPL 2023 final between CSK and GT was interrupted by rain when the four-time champions started off their chase. Gujarat put up a total of 214/4 in the first innings, and set a mammoth target for CSK to chase. But the covers soon came on and the play was stopped.
After heavy rainfall and hailstorm on May 28, Sunday, when the summit clash was originally scheduled to take place, the game was shifted to the reserve day, May 29. This was the first instance in the tournament's history that the finale was moved to the reserve day.
But with rain predictions on the reserve day as well, CSK skipper MS Dhoni elected to bowl first upon winning the toss. The first innings completed smoothly as Gujarat posted the highest total ever of an IPL final riding on Sai Sudharsan's 47-ball 96.
CSK had a huge task ahead of them as they had to chase a humongous total of 215. The opening batters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway started off the chase well as Gaikwad got a boundary off the third ball to set the momentum, but the play was stopped immediately after that boundary.
The target will reduce as the time passes and the overs start reducing. The rain stopped around 10:15 am and the covers were off, but the play could not resume due to the wet outfield. After an inspection at 10:45, the wait extended as the next inspection was scheduled for 11:30. If the game starts on or after 11:45, the overs will start reducing.
Here's how the DLS will work if the rain doesn't stop and if overs start reducing:

19 overs | 207 |
18 overs | 198 |
17 overs | 190 |

14 overs | 162 |
13 overs | 153 |
12 overs | 143 |
11 overs | 133 |
10 overs | 123 |
9 overs | 112 |
8 overs | 101 |
7 overs | 90 |
6 overs | 78 |
5 overs | 66 |
