The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) did not get off to the best of starts for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians as the Rohit Sharma-led side lost their opening game to Royal Challengers Bangalore, however, their struggles started before the start of the competition.
Before the start of the tournament, Mumbai had already hit an early bump as they lost Jhye Richardson to a recurring hamstring injury. Following his injury, the team announced 26-year-old Australian pacer Riley Meredith as his replacement.
Meredith has played 13 matches in the IPL, where he has picked up 12 wickets to his name. It could be interesting to see how Meredith will perform in the upcoming matches and how the Australian pacer will fare under pressure as the T20 carnival continues.
Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings in the 12th match of the IPL 2023
After their first game of the IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians will next go up against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, April 8.
Chennai Super Kings also kicked off their season with a loss to the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the season opener of the IPL 2023. Following a loss, Chennai came back in the very next game with a victory against the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants.
The four-time champions would be brimming with confidence in the match against Mumbai as they are coming off a win. In one of the most anticipated matches of the season, Mumbai and Chennai promise to produce a thriller yet again.
With Ruturaj Gaikwad in top form, the MS Dhoni-led side will go into the game as the favourites to come out on top, whereas Mumbai will be desperate to register their first win of the season. And with Meredith’s arrival in the Mumbai lineup, the team will hope that he can be a fine addition to their star-studded squad.
