IPL 2023: Rajasthan Royals vs Delhi Capitals, Match 11 - Talking Points and Who Said What?

The 11th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 saw Rajasthan Royals take on Delhi Capitals at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. On the heels of consecutive losses, the David Warner-led Delhi looked to register their first win of the season.

Winning the toss, Delhi elected to field first, and that is where their woes began. Coming in to bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler provided the hosts with a fabulous start. Jaiswal dismantled the bowling lineup of Delhi right from the start, scoring 60 runs in just 31 balls. On the other hand, ace English batter Jos Buttler showed resilience on the other end, scoring 79 runs.

After the end of the first innings, Rajasthan had posted 199 runs on the board. Coming in to bat, Prithvi Shaw’s poor run continued as he was dismissed for a duck. Trent Boult struck twice in the first over, dismissing both Shaw and Manish Pandey.

After pressure was mounted on Delhi early on, skipper David Warner stepped up and came through for the side. The ace Australian opener scored 65 runs, providing Delhi with some much-needed hope. However, it just wasn't enough in the end, as Rajasthan Royals won the match by 57 runs. Following their win, let us have a look at the talking points from the game

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s red hot form

21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal has fully converted his domestic form into the IPL 2023. The Indian batter has been putting in sensational performances for his side in almost every game that he has played so far. Against Delhi Capitals, the youngster took the attack to the opposition right from the get-go, scoring 60 runs in 31 deliveries. His knock was integral for Rajasthan, helping the side get a winning total on the board.

David Warner’s class

On the back of poor form in international cricket, David Warner seems to have made a comeback at the IPL 2023. After Trent Boult struck early in the second innings, the ace Australian opener played a dependable knock and amassed 65 runs to his name. Despite his innings being in vain, Warner did give it his all trying to propel Delhi to a win.

Player of the Match Yashasvi Jaiswal said:

I have worked hard. Trying to express myself. Learning is important for me. Growing as a young player is important for me. In my mind, I was like if it is a loose ball I will hit it. I think everything I learn from Buttler. I try to see how he practises. I knew I can take on a few bowlers. I didn't know. Sanju bhai said 'koi baat nahin theek hai' 

Losing skipper David Warner said: 

 I'll give that back [Orange] cap in a heartbeat for a couple of wins. When you are chasing 200, you got to start well in the powerplay and unfortunately, once again we lost early wickets. Can't take the credit from how good a bowler Trent Boult is in the powerplay and he bowled extremely well. It was always going to be a challenge to come out here and chase 200 with early wickets in the powerplay. It is just about executing your skills and when you are getting out early like that; we had a couple of chop-ons last game. We are professional athletes, and have to go back in the nets. It's about executing, and hopefully we can regroup. It's always difficult when we are losing wickets at the other end. It is frustrating. I have been hitting a lot of the fielders of late, but I will keep going out there and back myself. 175-180 was par there.

Winning skipper Sanju Samson said:

The way I play the format, I do take a few balls to settle in, but mainly it is just to go out and express myself and get those 40-50 runs at a high strike rate, with Jos doing the other role of taking the innings deep. The roles are very clear. If we do those roles, it is very normal to get few dismissals like this but I'll try to keep going. [Catch] It was a very funny moment. Just before the catch, I just felt I will take something like that. You get that feel. I just got that feel that I am going to catch it, and very next second it happened. [On his spinners] Last game that we played here, it was like a swimming pool and we were struggling to maintain the dryness. With the dew coming in, we will be playing a lot of night games and will have to get used to it and the wet ball. We have that experience in Yuzi and Ash in the middle overs. [On Ashwin] He reads the batters very well. He is always looking at the batters and getting the hints. They had a lot of left-handers and bowling Ash bhai a few overs were crucial.
