The Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the few franchises to have never lifted an IPL trophy. Ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League in 2008, RCB have seen several top players join their side. They have also made it to the playoffs several times, but have not managed to get their hands on the silverware in the past 15 editions.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli, one of the key players of the franchise, stepped down from his role as RCB’s captain before the 2022 edition of the tournament. RCB signed Faf du Plessis, former CSK player, during the mega auction ahead of the 2022 season, and handed him the leadership role. While being impressive with the bat, Faf managed to take the side into playoffs last year.

Just like every other year, this time too, RCB’s goal will remain the same- to lift their maiden IPL title. Alongside Kohli and Du Plessis, the squad also includes Australia’s power hitter Glenn Maxwell, India’s in-form pacer Mohammed Siraj, one of Sri Lanka’s finest spinners Wanindu Hasaranga, and experienced finisher Dinesh Karthik among several other top-tier names.

In the previous edition of the tournament, RCB were one step away from making it to the summit clash, but lost the Qualifier game against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and were knocked out of the race. They would be entering the upcoming tournament with a similar intent.

The BCCI announced the schedule for IPL 2023 on February 17, Friday, and RCB will kick-start their campaign on April 2, 2023, as they play their opening fixture against Mumbai Indians at their home ground, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.  They will play a total of 14 games in the league stage, like all other teams, which includes seven home games and as many away games.
