Shubman Gill completes 2000 runs in IPL
Shubman Gill scored 39 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders to cross the 2000-run mark in IPL.
The 13th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was played between the defending champions Gujarat Titans and the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 9.
Batting first, Gujarat got off to a good start as their star Indian batter Shubman Gill reached to the milestone of 2000 runs in the IPL in just his 77th match. He joined an elite list of batters after his 39-run knock against the Knight Riders.
The batter provided a brisk start to the defending champions before he was sent back to the pavilion by Sunil Narine. The star batter has been exceptional for his side so far, as he scored a half-century in the season opener of the IPL 2023 against Chennai Super Kings. However, he failed to get going in Gujarat’s second clash, which was against Delhi Capitals.
Sai Sudharsan, Vijay Shankar propel Gujarat Titans past 200
The bowling innings of Kolkata’s clash against Gujarat Titans began decently for the two-time champions as Sunil Narine struck early and dismissed Wriddhiman Saha, and after Gill’s dismissal, the situation seemed shaky for the Rashid Khan-led side.
However, Sai Sudharsan who looked to be in tremendous touch. The Indian batter scored 53 runs in just 38 deliveries while the unbeaten knock of 63 off just 24 from Vijay Shankar took the defending champions to 204.
"It is just that I am enjoying a lot more. Last year, something was off. I did really well in domestic (this year). I just wanted to do well for my team. They retained me and I just wanted to give my 100%. The support staff have been helping me a lot since I joined the camp. Happy it worked well today," Shankar told Star Sports after his knock.
Kolkata will look to put in a similar performance with the bat and register their second win of the IPL 2023.
