Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered yet another massive blow in the form of pacer Sisanda Magala’s injury as confirmed by head coach Stephen Fleming. It is understood that the player is likely to be out of action for at least two weeks as far as the ongoing IPL is concerned.

CSK are already reeling from the injuries of Kyle Jamieson, Mukesh Choudhary, Deepak Chahar, and Ben Stokes. As per the latest developments, Magala bowled just two overs before leaving the field due to a split webbing during the match against Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, April 12.

"For us again, it's losing another player - that's two games in a row - and we're already pretty thin, so we'd like it [injuries] to stop. Magala's hand was split unfortunately, so he was unable to bowl those last two overs. And same with Deepak Chahar in the last game, so we're operating on pretty thin resources. But we're not the only team to have that,” confirmed Fleming after the culmination of the game as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Medical staff yet to confirm extent of injury

Magala has headed for scans as the medical staff is yet to determine the extent of his injury. In addition to this, CSK is yet to release an official statement on the status of the player. Notably, the South Africa pacer joined the CSK set-up as a replacement player after Kyle Jamieson was ruled out for the entirety of the tournament.

Jamieson suffered a recurrence of a lower-back stress fracture upon which Super Kings decided to secure the services of Magala at his base price of INR 50 lakh. The pacer proved to be lethal in the recently concluded SA20 in South Africa.

Magala concluded the inaugural season of the top-tier league as joint fourth-highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps at an economy of 8.68. With the injury in place, it remains to be seen if Sri Lanka's Matheesha Pathirana gets his chance in the XI in the forthcoming games or not. CSK will be up against fierce rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday, April 17.
