IPL 2023: Sunrisers Hyderabad Retained Players, Released Players, & Purse Remaining ahead of Mini Auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad are yet to get their hands on the trophy after the 2016 edition andthey have over the years been quite consistent when it comes to making the playoffs. However, it looked a different story last year and there have been some some considerable changes in their squad starting from the players released and retentions ahead of the IPL Auction 2023. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad spent INR 67.90 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction last year while they retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik for a total of INR 22 crore ahead of the auction. They were left with INR 10 lakh in the purse after the auction, having picked 23 players in their squad.  

Williamson led the franchise in IPL 2022 and they did not have the best of seasons, having finished eighth in the points table. The New Zealand batter did not perform up to his expectations with just 216 runs in 13 innings. A lot of doubts had prevailed on whether he would continue his leadership for the franchise and as expected, SRH have opted to release him ahead of the IPL Auction 2023. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad have always stacked up a good bowling side followed by overseas batters, however, their mantra did not work out last year. Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma were among the few positives in the batting department while Umran Malik’s raw pace stole the limelight among the bowlers.
