In the 40th match of the Indian Premier League 2024, Delhi Capitals welcomed Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. GT opted to field first hoping to utilize the dew factor in the second half of the innings. Delhi Capitals had a poor start as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay, but a great partnership between Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant stabilized the innings. Due to the latter’s unbeaten knock of 88 from 43 deliveries, the side was able to amass 224/4 from their 20 overs.
In reply, the visitors started off well and were keeping the runs flowing despite losing Gill early on. Sai Sudharsan and David Miller played great knocks, but were sent back before they could seal the deal for the side. Rashid Khan took the game deep for the franchise but could not manage a boundary off the final ball to get them the victory. Let’s take a look at some of the changes that the Gujarat Titans can make ahead of their next game.
Meanwhile, GT needs some changes that may allow them to come off victorious in their upcoming encounter.
Here are the three changes that Gujarat Titans should make ahead of their next game:
3. Start Joshua Little instead of Noor Ahmad
Despite taking a wicket today, the off-spinner was not able to do much against the brilliant left-handed duo of Delhi Capitals. There is a very high chance that the Afghanistan bowler might be dropped, and Sai Kishore becomes the second spinner in the team.
Joshua Little is a much better choice for the Titans going forward as he'll bring in the early wickets that the franchise desires. The pacer was one of the most promising players last year but has not played a single game for the franchise this season.
2. Drop Azmatullah Omarzai
There is a high chance that Umesh Yadav might start ahead of Azmatullah Omarzai, who has not been able to replicate his international form in the tournament this year. This will also prompt Gujarat Titans to bring in an extra overseas player into the line-up.
Despite having a poor start to his Indian Premier League 2024 campaign, Umesh Yadav found his rhythm. The pacer looked on song in the previous matches he played before getting dropped. The Vidarbha cricketer was taking wickets in the powerplay and bowled a couple of crucial overs at the death as well.
1. Poor captaincy from Gill
Shubman Gill's captaincy was bound to be questioned after a horrific display from his bowlers after the powerplay. The decision to bowl out Azmatullah Omarzai within the first seven overs might have backfired. Skipper Shubman also gave the penultimate over of the innings to Sai Kishore and that might have proved to be the deciding factor for the visitors today.
The newly-appointed captain should have also given Sandeep Warrier another over at the death. The pacer had one of his best outings for the franchise today but was not given the chance to complete his quota of overs. The decision of promoting Azmatullah Omarzai was also a poor one as he could not muster anything significant and gave his wicket away cheaply.
