Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are locking horns in match 18 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, April 05. Having lost in the last match, both the teams came out intending to get back on the winning track. SRH won the toss and opted to field first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on a slow track.

Surprisingly, the home team included only three overseas players in their starting XI and will see Travis Head join as an Impact Player in the second innings. This is the same venue where over 500 runs was scored in the last week and CSK, unfortunately, had to come out with an inexperienced bowling attack against a team that had scored the highest score (277) in league history. They are without Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman.

SRH captain Pat Cummins introduced the spin attack immediately after the powerplay, starting with Markande. Shahbaz Ahmed got rid of the rival skipper on his very first ball as he failed to clear the fielder at long-on. That brought power-hitter Shivam Dube to the crease and the southpaw wasted no time in showing his muscle power. CSK scored 15 runs in the ninth over and the umpire signaled a strategic break.

Chennai Super Kings: 100 runs in 11.3 overs (69 balls)

Cummins returned to the attack and conceded just four runs. Jaydev Unadkat bowled his first over decently but Dube made up for it all in the 12th over against T Natarajan. The CSK batter hammered back-to-back sixes and brought helped his team breach the 100-run mark in style.

Strategic Timeout 2: Chennai Super Kings – 115-2 in 13 overs (Shivam Dube (44 off 22), Ajinkya Rahane (31 off 26)

Natarajan’s second over conceded 15 runs and the CSK batters – Dube and Rahane – brought up their 50-run partnership. The 13th over bowled by Unadkat went for nine runs and both teams split for a strategic timeout.

Chennai Super Kings: 150 runs in 18 overs (108 balls)

The slow balls did the trick for SRH and they got a huge wicket of dangerous Shivam Dube (45 off 24 balls). It was the skipper himself who gave the breakthrough, claiming his 50th IPL wicket. Unadkat brought in two new batters – Ravindra Jadeja and Daryl Mitchell - at the crease, dismissing Rahane in the very next over. On the last ball of the 18th over, the Kiwi batter hit a boundary to take the scoreboard to 152-4.

End of the first innings: Chennai Super Kings: 165/5 (20 overs)

Bhuvaneshwar bowled a tight 19th over and Natarajan complimented him well in the final over. The left-arm pacer sent Mitchell packing on the third ball, inviting MS Dhoni to the crease. The former CSK captain received a rousing welcome from the Hyderabad crowd. He took a single on his second ball and Jadeja hit a boundary off the final delivery to get 165 on the board. SRH restricted the visitors to a below-par total.
