IPL 2025 News

On paper, the Indian Premier League might be a two-month tournament but in reality, it’s much bigger. It has now turned out to be a nine to ten-month tournament overall as each team starts its preparation for the next season in July or August. Be it their plan of action for auction or bringing in players to their academy for trials, IPL has become much more than just two months of enthralling cricket but that however remains the focal point of everything.

The 2024 edition of the tournament saw Kolkata Knight Riders win the trophy and in July, they held meetings to discuss their approach for the next mega auction, set to take place ahead of IPL 2025. There’s barely time for rest for each franchise in the IPL and that’s the beauty of it. The off-field action is extremely vital and every team understands that now.

In 2025, BCCI was expected to increase the number of matches but that is not going to happen as secretary Jay Shah confirmed that they will host 74 matches in the next year. They are also contemplating the various ideas that each franchise has put forward regarding the number of retentions and the usage of RTM cards. Franchises like KKR and SRH have voiced against it but BCCI officials are in no mood to scrap them.
