In a crucial encounter at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals battled for a win that would keep their hopes for a play-off spot alive in this edition of the Indian Premier League 2024. The visitors won the toss and chose to bowl first in the hope of some dew in the second innings. They were also forced to make a change as they were without their skipper Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel assumed the responsibilities of the skipper.

During the first innings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost their openers early after they got good starts. But a great partnership between Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks gave them the foundation for the big total. They lost their way in the end as they lost quite a few wickets while trying to up the ante. In the end, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were able to post a decent total of 187/9 in their 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals - 63/4 after 7 overs - First Strategic Time Out

In response, the Delhi Capitals got the worst possible start as they lost veteran David Warner in the first over. Their powerplay got even worse as they lost two more wickets during the third over. Yash Dayal sent Abhishek Porel back on the first ball of his spell and then on the next ball, Jake Fraser McGurk was removed through an unlikely run-out.

Mohammed Siraj dismissed Kumar Kushagra in the next over and the visitors found themselves in all sorts of trouble. After that interim skipper Axar Patel and Shai Hope began the recovery for the side as the visitors hoped for a big partnership today.

Delhi Capitals - 127/7 after 15 overs - Second Strategic Time Out

The partnership of Hope and skipper Axar Patel was great as they were able to get some runs and offered some chance to their side to chase down the mammoth total. However, their 56-run stand came to an end when Lockie Ferguson dismissed him in the 10th over of the innings.

The hosts removed the dangerous Tristan Stubbs a few overs later with a brilliant piece of fielding once again. The skipper was left to bat with the lower-order batters and was playing the big shots to keep his team with a chance. He staged an important partnership with Rasikh Salim Dar, who played second fiddle well. However, his 12-ball stay came to an end after Cameron Green dismissed him.

Delhi Capitals - 140 all-out after 19.1 overs

Axar Patel also departed after the second strategic timeout as Yash Dayal picked up another. However, it was a great display from the all-rounder as he notched up 57 runs from 39 balls. Only the tailenders were left now and the win was all but guaranteed for the hosts. Lockie Ferguson removed Mukesh Kumar through a great bouncer and Mahipal Lomror caught the ball well. Yash Dayal picked up the final wicket and got the 5th consecutive win for the franchise.
