POTM Ravichandran Ashwin said:
"We haven't done very well in the last few games. We didn't put par scores and we lost Buttler, and Hetmyer was injured. Today's win was important. We were a bit rusty chasing it, but this win will give us some confidence. In the first half, I felt my body wasn't moving too well. I had an abdomen injury as well. I am aging as well. To come into the tournament from Test cricket was difficult, I needed some bowling time to get that rhythm. I think we hit the right lengths, the way Boult was bowling, he got a bit of swing and seam movement," Ashwin said.
Winning skipper Sanju Samson said:
"What cricket and life has taught us is we will have some good and some really bad phases. But we need to have the character to bounce back. Really happy with the way we fielded, we batted and we bowled today. Credit to the bowlers, they are always looking at what the opposition batters would do and what fields to set. Credit goes to Sanga and bowling coach Bond as well. They've spent a lot of time in hotel rooms discussing these things. They are 22 each, so is Jurel. With very little experience, the way they are performing at this level is amazing. I'm not a 100% actually. There is a bug in the dressing room, lots of coughs and a lot of people are a bit unwell. Rovman finished that off well. I think we have a travel day and rest now, looking forward to the next game," Samson said.
Losing skipper Faf du Plessis said:
"With the dew coming, we felt we were short with the bat. Did think we were 20 runs shy of what was a good score. Credit to the boys - they fought really well. That's all you can ask for. If you look at naturally assessing the pitch and conditions, you would say it's a 180 pitch because it was swinging upfront and was quite slow. But what we've found out this season, with the impact player, the par score isn't enough any more. Also with the dew coming in. Extremely proud. Lot of teams - their wheels would've fallen off after 1 from 9. To come back like that, six games in a row, takes a lot of heart and character. We weren't special tonight in terms of pushing that extra 20 runs with the bat," Faf said.
RR WIN BY FOUR WICKETS
Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets. Rovman Powell finished in style. They will now play Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2.
Shimron Hetmyer departs
Hetmyer departed after scoring 26 runs. Faf du Plessis picked up a good catch. RR are 160/6. 13 runs needed to win but RCB would fancy their chance.
CLEARED HIM UP
Mohammed Siraj cleaned Riyan Parag up. The youngster departed after scoring 36 runs. Massive wicket for RR. Can RCB make a late comeback? The team is known for comebacks.
Three overs left
11 runs off the over. RR are 154/4 after 17 overs. 19 runs needed to win.
18 runs off the over
Expensive over from Green. He gave away 18 runs. RR are 143/4 after 16 overs.
End of the 15th over
RR are 125/4. 47 runs are needed to win in five overs.
PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE!
Another phenomenal over from Green. RR are 115/4 after 14 overs. This game will go down the wire.
IMPACT SUB ALERT
Shimron Hetmyer replaced Yuzvendra Chahal.
Dhruv Jurel departs
An unfortunate dismissal. Dhruv Jurel was short by a whisker. Virat Kohli's terrific throw was collected well by Green and dislodged the stumps. RR are 111/4 now. Jurel departed for eight runs.
11 runs off the over
RR are 111/3 after 13 overs. 62 runs are now needed to win in seven overs.
Just two runs off the over
Excellent over from Green. He gave away just two runs as RR are 100/3 after 12 overs.
13 runs and a wicket
RR are 98/3 after 11 overs. 76 runs are now needed to win. GAME ON!
With the league-stage finally coming to a close after 58 days of enthralling cricket, IPL 2024 heads to the playoffs, with Rajasthan Royals (RR) all set to square off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad, on Wednesday, May 22.
Both teams enter the Royal Derby with contrasting recent performances and forms. While RR's campaign has gone south, winning just a single game in their five games (including a washout), that too after having all the momentum in the world to land a top-2 finish after winning eight of their nine games earlier. On the other hand, RCB have recorded six wins on the trot, after their seventh loss in eight games against the Kolkata Knight Riders by an excruciating margin of just one run.
While RR have won only one of the three Eliminators they've featured in, RCB have a 50% win rate in the four they've played. Fascinatingly enough, both the teams have a win percentage of 60% in Ahmedabad, with RR winning nine out of 15 while RCB have won three out of their five games, respectively. Besides, the most-recent encounter between both these teams saw Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler notching up majestic centuries, as RR clinched the game by chasing down the 184-run target with five deliveries to spare.
