The ongoing season of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 has seen many exceptional performances in the tournament so far. Many teams have breached the 200-run mark consistently, while Sunrisers Hyderabad have broken the record of the highest team total in the tournament history twice. Seeing the extremely high totals in the tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders’ mentor Gautam Gambhir came forward and advised that the ball manufacturer for the IPL should be changed.

In Kolkata Knight Riders’ recent clash against Rajasthan Royals, the hosts posted a total of 223 runs in the first innings. However, after a chasing masterclass by Jos Buttler, Royals managed to chase down the target. Gambhir opined that the Duke ball can be used as well, and there is no point in keeping using the kookaburra.

"If a manufacturer cannot produce a ball which can last for 50 overs, might as well change the manufacturer. There’s nothing wrong with changing the manufacturer. What is this compulsion with only using the Kookaburra?," Gambhir was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

We need greater balance between bat and ball: Harsha Bhogle

Speaking on the same matter, commentator Harsha Bhogle gave his opinion and stated how there is a severe need for balance between both the bat and the ball. He also suggested the use of a duke ball, which could help the bowler going forward in the IPL.

“I will reiterate this. We need greater balance between bat and ball and in a situation where the pitches aren't helping, the ball must do more in the air. How about a Duke ball, a ball with a more pronounced seam, that allows more lateral movement and ensures batters can't just hit through the line at will. Love to hear expert opinions on this,” Harsha Bhogle tweeted.
