IPL 2024: Harsha Bhogle picks team of the tournament

Veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle recently picked his team of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He named 11 players, including four foreigners. Three out of his four overseas picks were from the West Indies.

Virat Kohli and Sunil Narine were named as the openers. They were followed by the Rajasthan Royals duo of Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag. Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, and Dinesh Karthik formed the middle order. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and T Natarajan were the specialist seamers in the XI. Varun Chakaravarthy was picked as the lone spinner in the side.

Kohli finished as the leading run-getter in the tournament and won the Orange Cap for the second time in his career. He scored 741 runs from 15 matches at an average of 61.75. Meanwhile, Narine impressed with both bat and ball, scoring 488 runs and bagging 17 wickets to win the Most Valuable Player award for the third time in the IPL. His consistency with bat and ball played a key role in helping KKR win their third IPL title.

Samson and Parag scored 573 and 531 runs respectively, as they helped Rajasthan Royals reach Qualifier 2. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran had his best IPL season so far, amassing 499 runs at an excellent strike rate of 178.21. KKR legend Russell didn't set the stage ablaze with his batting but played some impactful cameos. However, he was on fire with the ball, scalping 19 wickets from 14 matches at 15.53.

Bengaluru's adopted son, Karthik, had a disastrous IPL 2023 campaign, failing to build on his sensational season in 2022. However, the wicketkeeper-batter rolled back the years in IPL 2024, scoring 326 runs at a strike rate of 187.36.

Bumrah headlines the bowling department after bagging 20 wickets from 13 matches in IPL 2024 at an average of 16.80. Only Chakravarthy (21) and Harshal Patel (24) picked more wickets than Bumrah in IPL 2024. Boult didn't have his best season in the league but managed to find a spot in Bhogle's playing XI. The New Zealand pacer accounted for 16 wickets from as many matches at 27.68. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad's T Natarajan had a phenomenal season, scalping 19 wickets from 14 matches at 24.47.
