Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in the match 3 of the IPL 2024. SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first and aimed to capitalise on their fast bowling arsenal. They reaped rewards as KKR lost four wickets in a span of eight overs with 54 runs on the board. Though Phil Salt’s 50-run knock provided the hosts a respite, they needed Andre Russell special to finish high. His 64* runs off 25 balls propelled KKR to a commanding total of 208.

SRH were chasing a tough target of 209 runs, but they looked in control during the powerplay. Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma contributed 32 runs each, which put SRH in a good position. However, despite contributions from Aiden Markram and Rahul Tripathi, SRH struggled to maintain the required run rate. Shahbaz Ahmed scored a quick 16 runs, but Heinrich Klaasen's 63 off 29 balls was not enough to take SRH to victory. KKR won the match by four runs in a thrilling finish.

Here are some highlights from KKR vs SRH Match 3 of IPL 2024:

1.  T Natarajan gets two wickets in an over

Natarajan set the tone for SRH with two wickets in an over. Trusted by Pat Cummins to deliver in the powerplay, he made full use of the line and length. He sent Venkatesh Iyer packing just after he was hit for a boundary. His next scalp was KKR’s captain Shreyas Iyer, who was facing his second ball and found the toe of the bat attempting a drive. He departed without troubling the scoreboard.

2. Phil Salt smashes three consecutive sixes

Phil Salt took Marco Jansen to the cleaners as he smoked three consecutive sixes in the very second over of the KKR’s innings. Salt, who had survived Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s scare in the previous over, as he had nicked one past the outside edge, showed no mercy for Jansen. His first maximum cleared the sweeper cover, followed by a smack towards the on-side square, and ended with a might six over extra cover.

3. Sunil Narine dismisses Rahul Tripathi in the third attempt

Sunil Narine had to toil hard to dismiss Rahul Tripathi. The batter survived two close dismissals off Narine and persisted. On the fourth delivery of the ninth over, Tripathi went for a big hit against the West Indies spinner, and the fielder at short fine dropped the catch. The next potential dismissal came in the form of LBW on the first ball of the 11th over, KKR avoided the review as well as the wicket. Finally, the veteran KKR star got Tripathi caught out by Harshit Rana on the final ball of the 13th over.
