Match 25 of IPL 2024 saw the Mumbai Indians take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wnkhede Stadium. Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians won the toss and put RCB in to bat first. One change was made by the hosts with Shreyas Gopal coming in for Piyush Chawla. On the other hand, there were three made by the visitors, with Will Jacks, Mahipal Lomror, and Vijaykumar Vyshak coming in for Cameron Green, Mayank Dagar, and Yash Dayal, respectively.
It wasn't to be for RCB's icon, Virat Kohli, as he got dismissed for only 3. However, skipper Faf du Plessis took the game deep by sticking around till the 17th over, courtesy of a 40-ball 61-run knock, anchoring the innings quite well. Rajat Patidar came back well after a really lacklustre start to the season, coming good with a half-century to his name, striking at 192.30.
However, the standout performers of the first innings were veterans Dinesh Karthik and Jasprit Bumrah, for two totally different reasons, Karthik for bringing up his first fifty of the tournament by playing some blisteringly unorthodox shots, and Jasprit Bumrah, for dismantling the batting order into finely pulverized powder, much like a crusher obliterates ores of metallic compounds into ultra-fine particles, picking up his second five-for in the history of the marquee tournament.
In reply, MI started the chase with a bang, with RCB having no clue where and how to bowl. After smashing 72 in the first six, the writing was already on the wall for RCB, with Kishan ending up scoring 69 of the 101 runs MI stitched for the first wicket. After recovering from a silver duck in Suryakumar Yadav's previous outing, he came in with just one mood - to absolutely tear apart the opponent, with him scoring a mind-blowing 52 (19). Skipper Pandya and Tilak Varma made MI cross over the line quite comfortably, with the former hitting three maximums and the latter stroking as many fours.
