IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians Retained Players, Released Players, & Purse Remaining ahead of Mini Auction
Mumbai Indians were knocked out in the Qualifier 2 in IPL 2023.
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians announced their list of retentions and released players on Sunday, November 26 ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction on December 19. The Rohit Sharma-led side released 11 players form their squad namely Mohammed Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Hrithik Shokeen, Raghav Goyal, Jofra Archer, Tristan Stubbs, Duan Jansen, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, Chris Jordan and Sandeep Warrier.
Notably, Mumbai finished on the fourth spot on the points table in the 2023 season having won eight out of the 14 matches with 16 points to their name. They reached the qualifier two but ended up losing against Gujarat Titans by 62 runs.
Ahead of the retention deadline, there were widespread reports of Hardik Pandya’s return to MI as the franchise had reportedly shelled out INR 15 crores and an undisclosed transfer fee to acquire his services. The confirmation on Hardik came a bit later than the closure of retentions deadline.

Mumbai Indians had their first memorable campaign in 2010 where they reached the finals under the leadership of Sachin Tendulkar. However, their fortunes turned big time in 2013 after they handed over the captaincy duties to Rohit Sharma who led them to their first title win in the same year.
Since then, MI had a golden run in the cash-rich league as they became the most successful franchise in the history of the league by becoming the first team to have three titles to their name in 2017. They further added two more trophies to their cabinet in 2019 and 2020 and became the first team to clinch five titles as well, a record which has only been matched by CSK.
