IPL 2024: Punjab Kings' 1st Innings Highlights against RR in Match 27

Punjab Kings were able to post a mediocre total of 147/8 in their 20 overs during the game against Rajasthan Royals.

Punjab Kings hosted the table toppers Rajasthan Royals in the 27th match of the Indian Premier League 2024. The match is being contested at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. The away side won the toss and chose to bowl first which was an interesting choice to say the least.

Both the teams made some big changes with the biggest one being the skipper of Punjab Kings sitting out due to a niggle. Meanwhile, for the Rajasthan Royals, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jos Buttler were sitting out due to injuries. The pitch was slow and it was offering turn for the spinners as well in the first innings.

Powerplay: PBKS 38/1 after 6 overs

Atharva Taide came in place of the veteran Shikhar Dhawan and started off brightly alongside Jonny Bairstow. They had an opening partnership of 27 runs, but in the final overs of the powerplay they had to play smartly and block out the good deliveries. Taide was dismissed by Avesh Khan, and it was Royals’ dominance after that.


PBKS 50/3 after 9 overs, First Strategic Timeout

Prabhsimran Singh and Bairstow had to depart just after the powerplay and Punjab Kings found themselves in big trouble. But at the stroke of nine overs, Punjab batters accumulated 50 runs on the board.

Sam Curran also had a short stint at the crease as he scored only six runs from his 10 balls. Breakout star Shashank Singh came out to bat alongside Jitesh Sharma but couldn’t continue his exploits with the bat as he departed after scoring just nine runs.


PBKS 72/5 after 13 overs, Second Strategic Timeout

Keshav Maharaj and Kuldeep Sen were dominant in the middle overs as they scalped three wickets between them and just conceded 58 from their eight overs. Avesh Khan was able to take two wickets and the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also scalped a wicket during his spell.

PBKS 147/8 after 20 overs

Due to Jitesh Sharma’s small cameo of 29 runs from 24 balls, the innings had some momentum in the middle overs. Liam Livingstone along with impact player Ashutosh Sharma combined in the middle for the death overs. However, the former couldn’t stay long at the crease as he got run out in the 18th over. In the end, Punjab Kings had a total of 147/8 on the scoreboard after they were sent out to bat first.
