Punjab Kings haven't made it to the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since their run to the finals in the 2014 edition of the tournament. They will want to erase the nightmares of the past nine seasons and have a strong campaign in IPL 2024.

Punjab are yet to win the coveted title and they haven't come close on too many occasions either. Apart from 2014, they made it beyond the round-robin phase on only one occasion and that was in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

Last year, the Kings finished at No. 8 on the points table, having won six games and lost eight in the competition. They had a pretty good chance of reaching the playoffs but four losses out of their last five matches dented their ambitions.

The management acquired the services of experienced pacer Harshal Patel and hard-hitting South African batter Rilee Rossouw for Rs 11.75 crore and Rs 8 crore, respectively at the 2024 IPL Auction. These two players were the most expensive picks for PBKS. They also roped in England all-rounder Chris Woakes for Rs 4.20 crore. Apart from these three picks, Punjab bagged five uncapped players at their base price of Rs 20 lakh.

Shikhar Dhawan, who is out of favour as far as selection to the Indian team is concerned, will be leading the team once again. He is one of the most experienced players in the league and will look to lead the team from the front. The England trio of Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran will have to play a crucial role, while Kagiso Rabada, who had a disappointing campaign last season, will have to spearhead to bowling.

Punjab Kings will begin their campaign with a clash against Delhi Capitals in Mohali on Saturday, March 23 in what will be an afternoon fixture.
