Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered their fifth loss in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 67 runs on Saturday, April 20 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After being put in to bat first, SRH posted a humongous score of 266/7 in their allotted 20 overs with Travis Head top scoring with 89 (32). Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for DC with figures of 4/55 in four overs.
In reply, DC could only reach 199 in their allotted 20 overs with Jake Fraser McGurk (65 off 18) top-scoring with his blistering half-century. Following their loss, Delhi are now on the seventh spot on the points table with three wins from eight matches having six points to their name.
Delhi have their next two fixtures against struggling sides at the same venue Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 24 and 27. Post that, they have tough fixtures lined up against in-form Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR). The Rishabh Pant-led side will play the last two fixtures against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Delhi need to win five out of their last six matches
Hence, Delhi only has two tough fixtures in their remaining six matches. Having six points to their name currently, they will need to win at least five more matches for smooth qualification to the playoffs. If they manage to do so, DC will finish the league stage with 16 points to their name. However, if they end up losing two fixtures, they will finish on 14 points and their fate will come down to the net run rate which is currently at -0.477.

The Rishabh Pant-led side once again have their backs against the wall and will look to build a winning momentum in their upcoming fixtures. With not many matches in their hands, DC needs to regroup quickly and leave behind the other struggling teams of the tournament by thrashing them in the upcoming fixtures to make a strong case for their playoff qualifications.
