Chennai Super Kings faced off against Punjab Kings in Match 53. Punjab won the toss and chose to field. Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel took three wickets each, limiting Chennai to 167 for 9. Ravindra Jadeja then spun his magic, taking three crucial wickets in the middle overs, denting Punjab's chances. Chennai emerged victorious by 28 runs. With 12 points, CSK stand third on the table and remain a strong contender with five titles.
Punjab's hopes look bleak, although mathematically they're still in the race. PBKS had won the last five consecutive matches against CSK, marking one of the lengthiest winning streaks against CSK, equalling MI's five straight victories between 2018 and 2019. CSK's previous triumph against PBKS occurred during the first leg of IPL 2021.
PBKS playoff berth potentially slipping away from their grasp
PBKS has secured four victories out of 11 matches, gathering a total of eight points. If they win their remaining three games, they'll reach 14 points. However, like lower-ranked teams, their fate hinges on other teams' outcomes to make it to the top four. Any more losses in upcoming matches will significantly diminish their playoff aspirations. After this loss, Punjab Kings might not control their destiny anymore.

“Thought we bowled really well. Rahul Chahar and Harshal bowled really well, was pretty happy at the halfway point but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The wicket was probably slower than we thought, we expected a little more pace and bounce, it was pretty similar throughout the game. Couple of days off and we go against RCB in a few days time so we need to move on and stay headstrong,” said Sam Curran in the post-match presentation.
