The most-anticipated match of IPL 2024 is on the horizon as Royal Challengers Bengaluru are set to face Chennai Super Kings at M Chinnswamy Stadium on May 18, with a playoff spot up for grabs. The match holds extreme importance to both teams as CSK are currently fourth on the points table, and with a win over RCB in their last league game, the defending champions would confirm their spot in the playoffs.

Things are a bit complicated for RCB. The Faf du Plessis-led side has amassed 12 points in 13 matches and they are also behind CSK in Net Run Rate. For them to qualify for the playoffs, the hosts will have to beat CSK by a significant margin. If RCB bats first in the match, they will have to beat the visitors by 18 runs or more and in case they field first, they will have to reach the target with 11 balls to spare, in case they are chasing a target of 201 runs.

Meanwhile, the match against RCB can prove to be MS Dhoni’s final dance if CSK fail to qualify for the playoffs. However, neither the player nor the management has confirmed the same.

What will happen if RCB vs CSK is washed out?

As per the latest development, there’s a massive opportunity of rain playing a spoilsport on May 18. The Karnataka government has issued an Orange Alert in the state, which will be effective from May 18-20. However, the Karnataka Cricket Association is hopeful for the match to take place even if it is shortened by a few overs.

However, in case the match gets washed out, RCB will eliminated from the playoffs race and CSK will confirm their berth in the top four. They will have 15 points to their name and will either face Rajasthan Royals or Sunrisers Hyderabad, given how both teams faired in their last league match.
