IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant set to play his 100th game for Delhi Capitals against RR

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant will be playing 100th game of his IPL career as his team takes on Rajasthan Royals in Match 9 of IPL 2024 on Thursday, March 28 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Notably, Pant made his debut for Delhi in 2016 and will become the first-ever player to play 100 games for his franchise.

The 26-year-old recently made his much-awaited comeback on the cricket pitch during DC’s opening game of the season against Punjab Kings after surviving a life-threatening accident in December 2022. The southpaw scored 18 (13) in his comeback game and also inflicted a stumping and took a brilliant catch with the gloves. However, he couldn’t save his team from a four-wicket loss.

Pant is also the leading run scorer for Delhi in the history of IPL with 2856 runs to his name from 98 innings at an average of 34.41 and a strike rate of 147.90 with one hundred and 15 fifties. His breakthrough season came in the year 2018 when he finished as the second-highest run scorer of the edition with 684 runs to his name from 14 innings at an average of 52.61 and a strike rate of 173.6 with one hundred and five fifties.

The Haridwar-born cricketer’s best-ever knock in the tournament’s history came against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during Match 42 of the season in 2018. Pant walked in to bat with his team reeling at 21/2 after four overs and singlehandedly took them to a total of 187/5 with his breathtaking knock of 128* (63). The second-best score from Delhi during the innings was Harshal Patel’s 24 (17).

After rising through the ranks with his marvellous batting performances, Pant was appointed as DC’s captain in 2021 and has led his team in 31 games so far winning 17 out of those. Meanwhile, the swashbuckling batter will be eager to help his side register their first win of the season with a match-winning knock in his special game.
