Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma looked at his vintage best during Match 20 of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against Delhi Capitals (DC) as he gave an electrifying start to his team. The opening batter played a quick-fire knock of 49 (27) with the help of six fours and three sixes as he helped his side make full use of the powerplay by scoring 75 runs in the first six overs.
Courtesy of a brilliant start and a top-notch finish by Romario Shepherd (39* off 10) and Tim David (45* off 21), MI posted a massive score of 234/5 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, DC could only reach 205/8 in their 20 overs as MI registered their first win of the season. Following MI’s first win, Rohit was given the special MI award in the dressing room for his explosive hitting at the top of the order.
“I thought it was a wonderful batting performance. It’s something that we all have been striving for from game one. Goes to show that, you know individual performances don’t matter if the whole batting group can stand up put their hand up and take a look at the team’s goal. We can achieve that kind of total. So, I think, you know it’s something that we have been talking about for a long time. And it’s something that the batting coach, Mark and the captain wants. So it’s wonderful to see, and as you said, long may that continue,” said Rohit after receiving the award.

Rohit is second highest run scorer for MI this season
Notably, the opening batter started the season well with an innings of 43 (29) against Gujarat Titans and followed it up with a 12-ball 26 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
