Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis and Punjab Kings stand-in skipper Sam Curran have been fined due to breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct. Du Plessis is fined INR 12 lakh for the IPL's Code of Conduct breach relating to over-rate offence during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. Du Plessis’ fine comes as Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first over-rate offence of the season.
On the other hand, Curran was fined as much as 50 percent of his match fees for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which refers to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision."
In a release shared by the IPL, it was confirmed that Curran admitted to the offence and even accepted the match referee’s sanction. It is worth noting that the article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct includes "(a) excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire's decision; (b) an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; (c) shaking the head; (d) pointing or looking at the inside edge when given out LBW.
RCB and PBKS continue to struggle in IPL 2024
Speaking about Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the side has struggled so far in the ongoing season of the IPL (Indian Premier League). Having played eight games in the tournament so far, RCB have only managed to register a win in one clash and have lost the remaining eight games.
Their performances have seen them slip down to tenth place in the standings with just two points in eight matches. On the other hand, Punjab Kings share a similar fate as RCB.
With eight games played, Punjab Kings have only registered two wins and have lost six games. These outings show them sitting in ninth place in the standings with four points. Where qualification to the playoffs is out of reach for RCB, PBKS still have their hopes up, as certain scenarios could still ensure them a place in the playoffs.
