Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans engaged in a gruelling encounter in the 24th game of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After several back-and-forth moments in the clash, Gujarat Titans managed to break the Royals’ unbeaten streak and hand them their first loss of the season.

However, RR skipper Sanju Samson was slapped with a fine by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) after the game. Samson received the fine after his side maintained a slow over rate against Gujarat Titans.

“As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” a statement released by the IPL stated.

RR maintain first place in standings despite first loss

The clash between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans saw both sides put in brilliant performances. Batting first, the Royals’ openers failed to go big. However, it was the knocks of Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag that helped the team post a big total on the board.

Samson scored 68* runs in 38 deliveries, with Parag scoring 76 runs in 48 balls. The hosts posted a total of 196 runs in the first innings. As for Gujarat, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, and Rashid Khan were among the wicket-takers in the first innings, with one wicket each to their names.

Aiming to defend the target, Gujarat got off to a slow start to the clash. Sai Sudharsan scored 35 runs in 29 deliveries, with skipper Shubman Gill picking up the pace in the latter stage of the clash as the star batter scored 72 runs in 44 deliveries. Furthermore, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia scored 24* and 22 runs, respectively, as Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by three wickets.

Facing their first loss of the season, the Royals maintained their place in the IPL 2024 standings. With four wins and one loss, the inaugural champions sit atop the points table with eight points to their names.
