IPL 2024: Shreyas Iyer to join KKR camp within two days, available for first match
The KKR skipper, who sat out the previous season due to a back injury, was sidelined from the field during the final's last two days of the Ranji Trophy final.
The news of Shreyas Iyer's anticipated inclusion in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp is sure to uplift fans, particularly after his concerns about a back issue during the recently-concluded Ranji Trophy final.
The KKR skipper, absent last season due to a back injury, remained sidelined during the final's last two days. Despite this setback, Iyer's blistering knock of 95 runs off 111 deliveries in Mumbai’s second innings showcased his prowess.
Reports suggest that Iyer's condition has significantly improved, and he is primed to reunite with his teammates at the franchise. The camp, slated to kick off on Friday, will commence with a practice session at the iconic Eden Gardens.
While a video of Iyer celebrating Mumbai’s 42nd Ranji Trophy title at the Wankhede Stadium circulated widely on social media, the KKR camp has remained mum on his fitness status.
“He will be available from the first match itself. As of now, there’s nothing to worry about. His staying off the field in the Ranji final was more of a precautionary measure," a source told The Telegraph assuring fans.

Notably, Iyer will not seek consultation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Since he is no longer a contracted player of the BCCI, accessing NCA facilities for free necessitates a recommendation through his state association.
Iyer's journey has seen its share of challenges; entailing exclusion from the Test squad and missing crucial matches due to back-related discomfort. Despite these adversities, his commitment to the game remains unwavering.
The much-awaited IPL 2024 is all set to kick off on March 22 with Thala MSD's Chennai Super Kings coming face-to-face with Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders are poised to begin their IPL 2024 journey against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
