Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their first win of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) with a 31-run victory over Mumbai Indians in Match 8 on Wednesday, March 27 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. After being put in to bat first, SRH shattered record books with their batting display by registering the highest total ever in the history of the league of 277/3.

Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen (80* off 34) scored half-centuries for the hosts in their record-breaking innings. In reply, MI were in the game halfway through the stage but lost the plot afterwards courtesy of some tight bowling by SRH. As a result, they could only reach 246/5 in their allotted 20 overs with Tilak Varma top-scoring with 64 (34).

1. Travis gives a ‘head start'

The SRH opener walked out to bat after seven years in IPL and announced his arrival in style as he took on the MI bowlers right from the word ‘go’. The southpaw took full use of the fielding restrictions as he mercilessly thrashed the opposition to all corners of the ground. Head raced to his fifty in just 17 balls and went on to score 62 (24) with the help of nine fours and three sixes.

2. Abhishek Sharma scores fastest fifty by an SRH batter

The 23-year-old walked in to bat after Mayank Agarwal lost his wicket early in the fifth over. Sharma walked out in top gear and joined Head at the crease who was in imperious form at the other end. The youngster gave good support to the Australian opener as both launched an onslaught from respective ends. Sharma brought up his fifty off just 16 balls and went on to score 63 (23) smashing three fours and seven sixes.

3. Pat Cummins bowls an economical spell in a high-scoring game

The SRH captain was the pick of the bowlers from both teams with figures of 2/35 in four overs. Cummins got the big scalp of Rohit Sharma (26 off 12) in the fifth over as the MI opener mistimed a pull shot which went straight to Abhishek Sharma at fine leg. He further got the well-set Tilak Varma holed out to deep mid-wicket in the 15th over giving away just three runs. Cummins further conceded just seven runs in the penultimate over of the innings to seal a win for his team.
