IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar picks his team of the tournament

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed some incredible individual performances, making it a challenging task to select the best players of the tournament. However, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar picked his IPL 2024 team of the tournament, which includes five foreigners. Three out of his five overseas picks are from the West Indies.

Gavaskar's team is led by the star batter Virat Kohli, who will open the batting with Sunil Narine. Kohli finished as the highest run-scorer of the season and won the Orange Cap for the second time in his career. He scored 741 runs from 15 matches. Meanwhile, Narine performed brilliantly with both bat and ball, hitting 488 runs and picking 17 wickets, and won the Most Valuable Player award.

The middle order consists of Sai Sudharsan from Gujarat Titans and the Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson. Samson scored 573 runs, as he played a huge role in helping Rajasthan Royals reach Qualifier 2. Adding further depth are the hard-hitting West Indian duo of Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell, along with wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran had his best IPL season so far, scoring 499 runs.

To provide balance and versatility, Gavaskar also included the young Abhishek Sharma and the big-hitting Shivam Dube, both known for their ability to contribute with bat and ball. Notably, Sharma and Klaasen played a huge role in helping SRH reach the finals of IPL 2024. 

The spin department is strengthened by the presence of Kuldeep Yadav and the reliable Ravindra Jadeja.

Spearheading the pace attack is the formidable Jasprit Bumrah who picked 20 wickets from 13 matches. Joining him are the impressive T Natarajan (19 wickets from 14 matches) and Australian skipper Pat Cummins, both capable of delivering match-winning spells.

Lastly, completing the bowling line-up is the talented Arshdeep Singh.
