IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad 1st Innings Highlights against Punjab Kings in Match 23
Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a fighting total of 182/9 in Mullanpur, Chandigarh against the mighty Punjab Kings in the first innings of the 23rd Match of IPL 2024.
Punjab Kings faced the high-flying Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 23rd Match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The game is being played at the newly built Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. This encounter is also the first-ever day-night IPL clash at this venue.
The home side, Punjab Kings, won the toss and opted to bat first. The in-form duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma continued their aggressive approach. The former in particular was trying to set the tempo for his side from the start. He was successful in doing so as he hit a brisk 21 from 15 deliveries before Arshdeep Singh removed him.
From then on, Punjab Kings came back to life as they got two more wickets for their efforts. Abhishek Sharma and South African skipper Aiden Markram were sent back to the dug-out in consecutive overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad took a brave call of using their impact substitution as they replaced Travis Head with Indian batter Rahul Tripathi.
The move paid off for the side as they weathered the storm as the duo stitched a positive partnership of 25. During the fourth delivery of the 10th over, Tripathi tried to play the upper cut but couldn’t connect and edged it straight to the keeper Jitesh Sharma. Sam Curran was brave in convincing the skipper Shikhar Dhawan to take the review for the wicket.
SRH still put up a fighting total
The dangerous Heinrich Klaasen joined Nitish Reddy at the crease. The latter was the cornerstone of this innings as he played some fabulous shots and reached his maiden fifty in the Indian Premier League. Harshal Patel removed Klaasen and brought Abdul Samad to the field. The batter produced a great cameo as he notched up an important 12-ball 25 before Arshdeep Singh sent him back to the pavilion.
Arshdeep Singh got a well-deserved four-fer as he dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy for an amazing 64 runs from 37 deliveries. The lower order was not able to contribute much with the bat as the away side could only muster 182/9 in their 20 overs.
