Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first restricting Chennai Super Kings to 165/5 from their 20 overs. Shivam Dube was the highest scorer for CSK with 45 runs. Ajinkya Rahane (35) and Ravindra Jadeja (31) contributed well for the defending champions.

Apart from Mayank Markande and Abhishek Sharma each of the bowlers picked a wicket each. The most economical bowler for the home team was veteran Indian star Bhuvneshwar Kumar who bowled four overs and picked a wicket for 28 runs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 51 runs in 3.3 overs

Abhishek Sharma started batting aggressively and hit Mukesh Chaudhary for 27 runs from his 1st over. The young opener was out for 37 off 12 balls before falling to Deepak Chahar. The 50 came up in 3.3 overs to make it the fastest fifty by a team in IPL 2024.

Powerplay and 1st Strategic Time-out: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory -78/1)

The fall of Abhishek Sharma didn’t deter the scoring rate of SRH. Aiden Markram and Travis Head struck some lusty blows to put the CSK bowlers on the back foot.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 100 runs in 8.5 overs

The ploy to bring spinners into the game seemed to work for a while. Aiden Markram though broke free by hitting Ravindra Jadeja for a six and soon brought the 100 up for SRH.

Half-century: Aiden Markram (Off 35 balls)

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram got his first fifty of IPL 2024 from just 35 balls. Once Travis Head fell the 29-year-old dropped anchor for the home team.

Second strategic time-out: Sunrisers Hyderabad (141/1 from 15.4 overs)

Aiden Markram and Shahbaz Ahmed were dismissed while trying to play revere sweeps. Moeen Ali playing his 1st game of the season got both the batters to give CSK some hope.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 150 runs in 16.5 overs

The period after the 2nd Time-out saw the SRH batter come out with an intent to finish the game early. Nitish Reddy was successful with the reverse sweep strategy to earn some crucial runs for Hyderabad.

End of the match: Sunrisers Hyderabad: 166/4 (18.1 overs)

Sunrisers Hyderabad won their second game of the season thanks to Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klassen. This was also CSK’s second loss in two games to give a huge setback to the defending champions.
