Virat Kohli has been out of action for ample time now. Though he might not chase records, the records chase him inversely. As he is back for the Indian Premier League 2024, the batter is displaying his batting skills against Chennai Super Kings in the season opener at Chepauk. Kohli in his pursuit for a resurgence surpassed another milestone, as he crossed the landmark of 12,000 runs in T20 cricket.
It is worth noting that the former India captain is the lone player in IPL to have surpassed the 7000 runs mark. His standout performance in the IPL came in the year 2016, as he amassed a whopping 973 runs in a season. He still holds the record for the highest run aggregator in a season of cash-rich league.
The star Indian batter has been on sabbatical from cricket. He was last featured in the T20I series against Afghanistan in January. He was supposed to be inducted in the squad against England for the Test series, but the batter pulled out at the last moment and remained unavailable for the whole series. The Afghanistan series saw the Run Machine gracing the T20I arena after a two-year hiatus.
The IPL 2024 will be crucial for the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as talks were going on of him being sidelined for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The reports had suggested that the selectors are not too keen on including him for the marquee event owing to his game of play not suiting the pitches in the West Indies and United States of America.
