The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start from March 22, with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locking horns with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The BCCI, ahead of the tournament, announced the schedule for the first 21 games due to the general elections in India. The board will soon announce the schedule of the second phase.

The first phase, which begins from March 22 and ends on April 7, will be played across 12 different cities, keeping the home-away format in place. There were speculations of the cash-rich tournament to have been shifted to the United Arab Emirates after that. However, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal and secretary Jay Shah denied all the rumors and confirmed that the whole tournament will be played in India.

The opening game will see the joint-most successful franchise, with CSK having lifted the title five times, take on the Bengaluru-based franchise, who are yet to lift the trophy. Meanwhile, the BCCI has also organized a grand opening ceremony featuring some of Bollywood's biggest names.
