Former Australian and ex-Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricketer, Aaron Finch, believes that a player like Virat Kohli is ideal for any IPL side due to the reliability he provides with his run-scoring prowess. Finch's comments came after RCB's 11-run win against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, April 24. Kohli's 70 off 42 was instrumental in RCB's efforts of getting to 205/5 before they ended up clinching their first home win of IPL 2025 later in the night.
“Yes, I mean, if you are offered 650, 700 runs at the start of the year, from one of your top-three batters, no matter whether your strike rate is 150 or 200, you would take that every single day because that just allows your team the platform to play around," shared Finch while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.
Finch also pointed out RCB's usage of aggressive batters in middle-order in the past and how implementing that strategy was majorly possible due to the dependability of Kohli up top.
“That’s when you can put some cowboys in the middle-order, ultra-high risk and they tried to do that with Livingstone and it hasn’t quite worked. Last year, Maxwell played that high-risk game as well and Patidar is looking to be overly aggressive as well. So, it just allows you to establish a platform, you know, once Virat gets in, very rarely does he get out at 30," added Finch.
Although Kohli enjoyed a commedable outing with the bat against the Royals, the Player of the Match accolade was awarded to Josh Hazlewood for his outstanding display with the ball. He bowled the 17th and 19th overs and conceded only seven runs while picking three wickets in those two overs combined. Overall, he took four wickets for just 33 runs.

RCB next take on Delhi Capitals next at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, April 27. They would be keen on extending their dominance away from home, having won all five of their games in IPL 2025 already.
