The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cut down the auction register by 1000 names - trimming it to 574 from 1574. However, all the cricketers who have made the final cut might not come under the hammer on the days of the mega-auction, which are November 24 and 25.
An accelerated process in the auction will commence after the names of 116 players have been called for bidding. Ricky Bhui is the 117th player in the register. In BCCI's official statement to the franchises on Friday, November 15, some important details regarding the auction procedure were conveyed.
"For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player no.116. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 117 - 574, Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 PM on the evening of 24th November," the BCCI said in its statement.
"Once these players (117-574) have been presented, franchises will be requested to submit the names of players (unpresented /unsold) from all those on the full list of 574 for further accelerated presentation. This will be covered in more detail at the auction briefing on 23rd November 2024," it added.
The auction will get underway with the two sets of marquee players followed by an entire round of capped players by skill-set - batter, all-rounders, wicketkeeper/batter, fast bowlers and spin bowlers and then move into an entire specialism round of uncapped players.
Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Mitchell Starc comprise the first set of marquee players. Meanwhile, the second set consists of six more players - Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.
Jofra Archer unavailable for IPL 2025
One of the biggest talking points after the announcement of the auction register was the absence of star England seamer Jofra Archer. He will be unavailable for the 18th edition of the IPL as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants him to remain fit for the national team's assignments in the summer.

Also, it is understood that the franchises are surprised with only 12 players being in the marquee list. After the BCCI informed them about the auction having two sets of marquee players, they thought that there would be at least 20 players up for grabs from the category, reported Cricbuzz.
