IPL 2025: Avesh Khan set to join Lucknow Super Giants
The right-arm quick had been dealing with a problem in his right knee.
In a major boost for Lucknow Super Giants, Avesh Khan has received clearance by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to join the team in IPL 2025. Avesh, who was acquired by LSG for INR 9.75 crore at the mega auction last year, was not a part of their opening clash against Delhi Capitals as he was recovering from a right knee injury.
The BCCI medical staff has given the go-ahead to Avesh to link up with the LSG squad per an ESPNcricinfo report. The discomfort in Avesh's right knee is related to his workload during the recently-concluded domestic season. He has not played competitive criket from late January.
The right-arm pacer was at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru fo his rehab. It is understood that he underwent one of his final fitness tests on Monday, March 24, the same day LSG lost a nail-biter to Delhi Capitals in their opening game as they ended up losing by one wicket.
While the exact date of Avesh's return to the team is not confirmed, the pacer is expected to be available for selection for LSG's next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27. The fixture will be the second away fixture for the franchise.
LSG have been riddled with injuries to their core set of Indian pace bowlers. Mayank Yadav recently picked up a toe injury while recovering from a lumbar stress injury while Akash Deep is recuperating from a back injury which he sustained during the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Mohsin Khan has already been ruled out of IPL 2025 with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear, with seam-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur replacing him.
