Dasun Shanaka is all set to replace Glenn Phillips in the Gujarat Titans' (GT) squad in the IPL 2025. The Sri Lankan is likely to join GT's squad soon. Phillips suffered an unfortunate groin injury during the match between GT and SRH on April 12, did not continue in the match, and was sent back home for treatment.

After the match, GT released a statement about their star player. In their statement, the 2022 champions confirmed that the Batting All-rounder had returned home for his treatment and wished him a speedy recovery. In his absence, Sherfane Rutherford has been getting chances in the middle order for the 2023 finalists. Shanaka's inclusion in the squad might be good, as he carries loads of experience at the highest level. The new development was reportedly confirmed by the News Wire.

"Gujarat Titans all-rounder Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery," GT's statement claimed.

Shanaka's experience of playing for the Gujarat Titans

The Sri Lankan has experience of playing for the Titans in the past. The star player was a part of GT's squad in the 2023 season and played a few matches for the Gujarat-based franchise. Dasun Shanaka played 3 matches and scored 26 runs at an average of 13.00, at a strike rate of 100.00, with a best score of 17.

He did not get a chance to bowl due to the impact player rule. Shanaka might be handy in a setup like the Titans, for whom he has played in the past. He is one of those players who could win matches on his own on his day.

While GT might not need Shanaka's bowling, they could need his contributions with the bat, especially on slow surfaces. The Sri Lankan has the experience of playing on such tracks all his life in the subcontinent. It is to be seen if he gets a chance in the XI.
