IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals retained players, released players and purse remaining ahead of mega auction

Delhi Capitals (DC) are yet to win the prestigious trophy. The team announced their list of retentions and released players on Thursday, October 31, ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Surprisingly, the Capitals have let go of their dynamic skipper Rishabh Pant. Pant who was the side's highest run-scorer is all set to enter the auction table after a gap of nine years. The side has shown faith in four players namely, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel.

In the previous edition, Delhi finished the league stage in the sixth position on the points table with seven wins from 14 matches having 14 points to their name. Ever since the management renamed from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals, things have drastically changed and they have become a better side and have come close to lifting the title.

In 17 editions, the Delhi-based franchise has qualified for the knockout stage six times and has featured in one final, which came in 2020. That year under Shreyas Iyer's played their first final but suffered a five defeat at the hands of Rohit Sharma's mighty Mumbai Indians. 

Apart from the 2020 qualification, Delhi has reached the playoffs in 2008, 2009, 2012, 2019, and 2021. But the last three years have been a downhill battle for Delhi as they haven't made significant development in the points table. 

Ahead of the mega-IPL 2025 auction, the side made a shocking change in the coaching group by ending its successful seven-year partnership with legendary Australian skipper Ricky Ponting. Capitals will now be coached by Hemang Badani with Venugopal Rao serving as Director of Cricket.

Having a good enough amount of remaining purse, the Capitals will look to make valuable additions to their squad in the mega-auction and have a shot at their maiden title win in the upcoming season.
