IPL 2025: Digvesh Rathi fined for inappropriate action during LSG vs PBKS encounter

Digvesh Singh Rathi, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the Code of Conduct during his team's IPL 2025 match against Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday.
Digvesh Singh admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding.
The incident unfolded during the third over of the chase, as Punjab were chasing the 172-run target set by the hosts Luckow in Match 14 of the ongoing IPL 2025. On the fifth ball of the over, Rathi got Priyansh Arya miscue one in the air, as Shardul Thakur completed a simple catch in the end. His gesture towards the batter to hand a send-off was found as an inappropriate one, attracting a fine and a demerit point penalty as well.
Rathi took another wicket during his final spell, this time sending the other opener Prabhsimran Singh, thereby breaking the 84-run partnership between him and Shreyas Iyer. However, these were the only two wickets lost by Punjab, as they won the game by eight wickets and 22 balls to spare.
Speaking more about the game, Punjab Kings had to bowl first on Tuesday, and the side got Lucknow troubling almost instantly, as Mitch Marsh departed cheaply. Skipper Rishabh Pant too departed for 2 off 5 balls. Only Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni looked at some sort of comfort, which eventually took them to a decent total. However, that too wasn't enough, as Punjab Kings had no issues whatsoever in chasing down the target in just 16.2 overs.
Meanwhile, the next game of the 2025 season of the league is between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans, as the Shubman Gill-led side will play their first away game of the season at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday, April 02. If RCB win this, they will maintain the top spot, while GT too will be looking to rank up on the table with their second win of the season.
