Prolific New Zealand and Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Glenn Phillips was asked to name the profession he would have pursued if not for being a professional cricketer. The Kiwi claimed that flying was his passion and felt he would have ended up becoming a pilot. The star player said he would have loved to go to the mountains and pursue his hobbies without the need to do any other work.

The Kiwi player was interviewed before the Gujarat Titans' first match of IPL 2025 against the Punjab Kings. The world-class fielder described flying as a huge passion of his. He felt that all of his money would have gone into piloting if he weren’t a cricketer. Glenn claimed to be in love with everything related to flying.

"Yeah, it's a huge passion of mine. If I weren't playing cricket and I had all the money in the world growing up, I probably would have ended up being a pilot, to be fair. I love being in the air. I love all the procedures around being a pilot, the radio communications, but the handling of the plane itself," Phillips was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

I'd like to be able to go into the mountains and have no need for work: Phillips

Glenn Phillips wasn't aware of the reason behind his love for flying. He felt every human wanted to fly at one point and didn't consider himself different from them. The feeling of flying is something that humans have wanted all the time. So, I guess I'm no different from all those people," he 28-year-old added.

Besides, the South African-born claimed he would ideally go into the mountains and perform his hobbies without worrying about his work. Phillips said if he had to work, by all means, he would've loved to be a pilot.

"I guess if it comes down to wanting to do something that I enjoy after cricket, ideally, I'd like to be able to go into the mountains and have absolutely no need for work and do all my hobbies. But if push comes to shove, it means that I still need to work, and piloting would be my first option on the list," Phillips concluded.
