Gujarat Titans (GT) have suffered a blow as Glenn Phillips, who joined the franchise at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction for his base price of INR 2 crore, has left the camp. While the exact reason behind his abrupt departure has not been confirmed yet, it seems that the New Zealand all-rounder may have sustained an injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to make an official announcement soon. The 28-year-old all-rounder played a key role in helping New Zealand reach the finals of the Champions Trophy 2025. Phillips made a name for himself by taking a few spectacular catches in Pakistan and Dubai, exhibiting cat-like reflexes. He has also improved his bowling substantially in recent years, and this has truly made him a three-dimensional cricketer.

It is understood that he sustained an injury during the Gujarat Titans' away match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 6. He did not = get a game for his new franchise as the Shubman Gill-led side gave Sherfane Rutherford a go in the middle-order, and the Caribbean batter has fared commendably so far.

It will be interesting to see whether the former champions opt for an immediate replacement for the 28-year-old Phillips. He is the second overseas player to leave the GT camp in the middle of the season. Earlier, Kagiso Rabada had to rush back home due to a personal emergency, and there is still no update on when he will rejoin the squad. GT currently have five overseas players - Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat.

Gujarat Titans hope to consolidate position at the top of the table

Gujarat Titans had a disappointing start to IPL 2025 as they lost their opening fixture against Punjab Kings. However, the 2022 winners have bounced back with four consecutive victories. They are currently placed at the top of the points table.

The Titans will be in action on Saturday, April 12, as they take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Rishabh Pant-led LSG have three wins and two defeats from five games and find themselves at No. 6 on the points table. Fans can expect a mouth-watering contest on Saturday.
