Anything can happen in this format, there are still plenty of games left: KKR CEO Venky Mysore
The defending champions have managed to win only three games out of their eight so far.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have managed to win only a couple of games in their first seven matches during the ongoing IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League). Their most recent setback came in the form of a 39-run defeat against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Eden Gardens on Monday, April 21.
Given the start they've had to their season, they face a steep road ahead in order to make it to the playoffs. KKR's CEO, Venky Mysore, highlighted the franchise's rich history of bouncing back from adverse situations (the 2014 and 2021 editions of the IPL and CLT20 2014).
"This is our 18th season. If you look at our record, we're among the top three. Whenever new people come into our set-up, I tell them that in 2014, at the halfway point, we had only won two and lost five. You know what happened in 2014 – we went on to win nine in a row to set the IPL record. After that, we played the Champions League and won five in a row. So, we won 14 games in a row," Mysore said at an event in Kolkata, as per India Today.
"In 2021, we had just two wins and five losses at the halfway stage and still made it to the final. Anything can happen in this format – there are still plenty of games left," he added further.

‘Inspiration can come from anywhere’ – Mysore urges KKR to stay focussed
Besides, Venky Mysore also urged the loyal fanbase of KKR, as well as the entire squad, to draw motivation from the journey and not get consumed by the results. KKR have won the IPL title a total of three times. They are the defending champions of IPL 2025 and would be expected to deliver better performances as the 18th instalment of the marquee T20 league heads into its second phase.
"Inspiration can come from anywhere. Sometimes, we get caught up in the IPL table, wins and losses. But when you step back and put things in perspective, you realise there’s a lot of life beyond these wins and losses – and you can draw inspiration from anywhere," Mysore concluded.
