Lucknow Super Giants reached the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2023 when Gautam Gambhir was the team's mentor. However, the veteran returned with his old beau Kolkata Knight Riders as the mentor for IPL 2024, and the team clinched its third title. LSG on the other hand finished seventh in the latest edition and ahead of the 2025 season, the franchise is planning to rope in former Indian pacer, Zaheer Khan as the mentor.
According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, Zaheer will join the LSG coaching staff that has two vacancies left suiting his profile. Gambhir has been named as the Head Coach of the Indian team and Morne Morkel, who was LSG’s bowling coach has also joined the Indian set-up over the same job profile. It is uncertain whether the former left-arm pacer will be inducted as bowling coach or mentor, however, he was with Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022 as director of cricket and then head of global development.

Speaking of LSG’s coaching setup, Justin Langer is leading the pack with Lance Klusener and Adam Voges as his assistants. Langer replaced Andy Flower as the Head Coach of the team ahead of the 2024 season. The reports further add that the franchise is gearing up to hand over Zaheer a wider profile which will also include the talent scouting and player-development programmes.
Abhishek Nayar was handling a similar responsibility for KKR during his extended stay. He was a key player in the coaching staff even though the staff was revamped twice since 2019. He was instrumental in scouting players such as Rinku Singh, Vaibhav Arora, and Harshith Rana among several other players.
