The renowned Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are all set to retain the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Furthermore, Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni are set to be retained as the uncapped players.

Star batter KL Rahul, who had led Lucknow since the franchise’s inception in 2022, is expected to not be retained. After the five expected retentions, LSG will also have one RTM card available at the auction. Furthermore, the amount at which the five players have been retained has not been revealed as of yet. It has been reported that a total of INR 51 crore will be reduced from LSG’s purse.

However, if the amount exceeds 51 crore, then that amount will be reduced from the original purse of INR 120 crore. As per ESPNcricinfo, Nicholas Pooran will be the first pick for Lucknow and will be followed by Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi. There had also been reports that Pooran could be named the side’s skipper for the IPL 2025, considering that KL Rahul is not retained.

Notably, Pooran was roped in by LSG for INR 16 crore ahead of the IPL 2023 and has been an exceptionally important player for the side. Revered as one of the best hitters in the world at the moment, and with his price tag soaring, the West Indian could turn out to be the costliest retention for Lucknow.

Lucknow will most likely retain Mayank Yadav but uncertainty over KL Rahul

Furthermore, Mayank Yadav had many eyes on him as well due to his short stint in the IPL 2024. The youngster won two Player of the Match awards in his first two IPL matches, clocking speeds of up to 150 KPH.

However, injury problems saw him play only four games in the season, and if he is retained, Lucknow will hope that the situation could be different in 2025. If reports of KL Rahul not getting retained ahead of the auction indeed prove to be true, then Lucknow Super Giants could be in for a huge revamp in the IPL 2025.
